Our pitch

We are deeply committed to democratic process in union business. Our founding principles page outlines the core beliefs that make us tick as unionists.

Our full election policy platform was sourced from our members, debated with our members, and voted and endorsed by our members. You can read a short summary below.

Policy platform – in short

We are excited to bring transparency and accountability back to our union. Our election policy platform includes:

  • reducing union fees
  • changing from a regressive to progressive fees structure, meaning those who earn more pay more of their salary to be a union member
  • bringing executive salaries in line with a VPS 6.2 salary – because they shouldn’t be paid any more than the workers they negotiate for
  • setting term limits for executives (the secretary, assistant secretary, president, and vice-presidents)
  • developing a strong recruitment and retention policy to grow CPSU Vic membership. It’s been stuck at 15,000 members for decades, despite there being more than 100,000 eligible Vic government workers.
  • making sure it’s easy to find who your delegate, organiser, health and safety reps, and branch council reps are – these people are here to support you, the first step is to know who they are!
  • bringing back structures that make the union more representative – whether it’s regular surveys, member meetings, or delegates conferences, we want members to have plenty of opportunity to have their voices heard.
